Recent demand for biofuel has created both winners and loosers. One large (25 million liters/year) biofuel plant recently closed because the cost of producing oil from seed crop was not cost effective - yet. This is case in point that algae is the way, but it's still three years off before we see it in quantity. The market is still under development with a bunch of entrepreneurial start-ups and two well established firms. Everyone is looking for the right combination of algae, nutrients, and growing processes to perfect the perfect recipe to produce oil from waste water and CO2. The wait will be worth it.
